About Egy Hajóban Foundation:

The 'Egy Hajóban Gyermek- és Ifjúságvédő' Foundation (abbreviated name: Egy Hajóban Foundation, in English: Egy Hajóban Protecting Children and Young Foundation) was registered in November, 2004 by the County Court of Baranya as an 'outstanding' civil service - this means the highest level category within the civil services. The main purpose of the Foundation is to utilise the experiences of those who have been working for the Foundation for many years for the benefit of people who are excluded or are on the fringe of society.  This is made possible mainly because of the privileged legal status of the Foundation, which provides a broader scale of legal actions and solutions. The Foundation's intention is to provide its public utility services to as broad a scale of social groups as possible, especially to deprived youngsters. Regarding the Law of Civil Services, our Foundation undertakes public obligations and duties that are related to both state and local governments.

Mobile Legal Aid

Together with the safeguarding activities, the Foundation has been engaged in providing legal help, not just for young people, but also for all deprived and socially excluded people under the registration of the Ministry of Justice, from the year 2005. We run this programme, - so called Mobile Legal Aid - as an absolute innovative, and the first to be initiated in Hungary. This Programme means that we presently provide legal help free of charge in Baranya County to approximately 150 small villages under a contract with the Ministry of Justice as an agreement between the government and the civil service.  This is the first agreement of this kind. By April 2006, the Programme covered four regions (the centres are Siklós, Sellye, Szigetvár and Pécs), and our aim is to provide our services for the inhabitants of more than 300 villages in the county.
Our long-term objective is to provide legal help throughout the whole country. The negotiations concerning this project with the governmental organisations are currently being processed. With regard to the Foundation having used alternative financial resources (Labour Office), six lawyers are employed who have just started their career, and who attended work experience  during their University education. In the last half year, 16 law students were engaged in our work.

Projects

The Foundation has carried out and accomplished many projects, mainly by self-effort, and with the aid of grants. The organisation's outstanding results are as follows.

  • 2005 - we were given an award from Mobilitás (Hungarian Office of the Youth Programme 2000-2006) - set up by ISZCSEM (Hungarian Ministry of Youth, Family and Equality) and the European Commission - the 'Youth Exchange Development Programme'. In the framework of this Programme we organised an active international training scheme for socially discriminated people from eight countries.
  •  2005 - we also completed a successful project supported by Mobilitás, called 'Play for Knowledge', and the aim of the project was the informal education of Youth. We were financed by three sections of GPS' in order to realise this programme.

Plans

Our long-term plans are to continue planning and applying for projects in connection with the young in order to realise our goals. At the moment the members of the advisory board are working on new projects, which require application process and project management. Our colleagues endeavor to disseminate the activity of the foundation to regional and national level.
